The year-over-year (YOY) September Consumer Price Index was 5.4%.
Inflation has been above expectations, near 4.5% to 5.2% throughout 2021. The
Moody’s Analytics Inflation Expectations Pulse (IEP) remained unchanged in the
week ending Oct 17. IEP is a dynamic measure of 20 inflation factors across
various time series, including Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS), plus
surveys of forecasters and households. IEPs for 10- and five-year forward inflation
expectations for the Personal Consumption Expenditure Index on a four-week
moving average basis for the next 10- and five-years remained at 2.49% and 2.38%
(Figure 1), respectively.
